If you are planning a trip to Tuscany at the end of September make sure you visit the town of Impruneta for the oldest harvest festival in Tuscany, “Festa dell’Uva”. The Grape Festival was founded in 1926 and organised by the farmers who used to come from surrounding villages to Impruneta to show their locally produced wine. Over the years, the festival lost some of its rural characteristics, but its popularity remained the same. Nowadays, the festival consists mainly of a parade of wagons (which can reach even ten meters in height) of the four districts (Pallò, Sante Marie, Fornaci and S. Antonio) accompanied by the music and dance. The carts are inspired by the wine and the grape harvest, and every year a winner is proclaimed.
This year the 93rd edition of the Grape Festival of Impruneta, a small town in the wine-producing area of the Chianti wines will take place in the beautiful Piazza Buondelmonti, the main square of Impruneta on last Sunday of September. The festival includes popular dances, performances and tasting of Chianti varieties as well as regional delicacies. The festival begins with the Impruneta Philharmonic Orchestra and after the grand parade starts. Wine tourism during the harvest season in Tuscany is a splendid experience you shouldn’t miss!
