A Delicious Beef Bourguignon Recipe for Red Wine Lovers

Be first to comment

Are you a fan of beef dishes and red wine? If so, then this beef bourguignon recipe is perfect for you. Beef bourguignon is a classic French dish that combines tender beef with a rich and flavorful red wine sauce. The slow cooking process allows the flavors to meld together, resulting in a dish that is both hearty and comforting. Whether you are cooking for a special occasion or just want to treat yourself to a delicious meal, this beef bourguignon recipe is sure to impress.

The Ingredients You’ll Need

Before you begin, gather all of the necessary ingredients for this beef bourguignon recipe. You will need:

  • 2 pounds of beef stew meat, cut into 1-inch cubes
  • 3 tablespoons of all-purpose flour
  • 4 tablespoons of butter
  • 1 onion, diced
  • 2 carrots, sliced
  • 2 cloves of garlic, minced
  • 1 bottle of red wine (preferably a Burgundy or Pinot Noir)
  • 2 cups of beef broth
  • 1 tablespoon of tomato paste
  • 1 bouquet garni (a bundle of herbs tied together with string, typically including thyme, bay leaves, and parsley)
  • Salt and pepper to taste

Make sure to choose a good quality red wine that you enjoy drinking, as it will contribute to the overall flavor of the dish.

Preparing the Beef Bourguignon

Now that you have gathered all of the ingredients, it’s time to start preparing the beef bourguignon. Follow these steps:

Step 1: Coat the Beef

In a large bowl, coat the beef stew meat with flour, salt, and pepper. Make sure each piece is well coated.

Step 2: Sear the Beef

In a large, deep skillet or Dutch oven, melt the butter over medium-high heat. Add the coated beef and cook until browned on all sides. This step helps to develop a rich flavor in the dish.

Step 3: Add the Vegetables

Once the beef is browned, add the diced onion, sliced carrots, and minced garlic to the skillet. Cook for a few minutes until the vegetables begin to soften.

Step 4: Deglaze with Red Wine

Pour the entire bottle of red wine into the skillet, using it to deglaze the bottom of the pan. This will incorporate any browned bits of meat or vegetables, adding depth of flavor to the dish.

Step 5: Add the Remaining Ingredients

Add the beef broth, tomato paste, and bouquet garni to the skillet. Stir to combine all of the ingredients.

Step 6: Simmer and Cook

Reduce the heat to low and simmer the beef bourguignon uncovered for 2-3 hours, or until the meat is tender. Stir occasionally to prevent sticking.

Step 7: Serve and Enjoy

Once the beef is fork-tender, remove the bouquet garni and season the beef bourguignon with additional salt and pepper if needed. Serve the dish hot, accompanied by crusty bread or mashed potatoes.

Wine Pairing

Since this beef bourguignon recipe already incorporates red wine, it is important to choose a wine that will complement the flavors of the dish. Consider serving the beef bourguignon with a glass of Burgundy or Pinot Noir, as these wines are traditionally used in the cooking process and will pair well with the flavors of the dish.
