How to Make a Classic Italian Tiramisu with Marsala Wine

Be first to comment

Italian Tiramisu is a classic dessert that combines layers of soaked ladyfingers, rich mascarpone cheese, and a hint of coffee. To elevate this traditional dish, you can add a splash of Marsala wine. Marsala is a fortified wine from Sicily that adds a depth of flavor and a touch of sweetness to the dessert. In this article, we will guide you through the steps of making a delicious, homemade Tiramisu with Marsala wine.

Gather Your Ingredients

Before you begin, make sure you have all the necessary ingredients. For this recipe, you will need:

  • 6 egg yolks
  • 3/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 2/3 cup Marsala wine
  • 2 cups mascarpone cheese
  • 1 1/2 cups heavy cream
  • 24 ladyfinger cookies
  • 1 cup strong brewed coffee, cooled
  • Cocoa powder, for dusting

Make sure to use high-quality ingredients for the best results.

Creating the Mascarpone Cream

To start, separate the egg yolks from the whites. In a large mixing bowl, whisk the egg yolks and sugar together until they become creamy and pale yellow. Add the Marsala wine to the mixture and continue whisking until well combined.

Next, add the mascarpone cheese to the bowl and mix until smooth. In a separate bowl, whip the heavy cream until it forms stiff peaks. Gently fold the whipped cream into the mascarpone mixture until fully incorporated.

Assembling the Tiramisu

Take a rectangular dish or individual serving glasses and begin assembling the layers of the Tiramisu. Start with a layer of soaked ladyfingers dipped in the cooled brewed coffee. Arrange them evenly at the bottom of the dish.

Spoon half of the mascarpone cream mixture over the ladyfingers, spreading it evenly. Repeat the process with another layer of soaked ladyfingers, followed by the remaining mascarpone cream. Smooth the top with a spatula.

Lastly, cover the Tiramisu with plastic wrap and refrigerate for at least 4 hours, or preferably overnight, to allow the flavors to meld together.

Serving and Enjoying

When you are ready to serve the Tiramisu, sprinkle the top with a generous amount of cocoa powder. This will add a beautiful and rich flavor to the dessert. Using a fine-mesh sieve, dust the cocoa powder evenly over the top layer.

Using a sharp knife, cut the Tiramisu into individual squares or scoop it into serving glasses. Serve chilled and enjoy the creamy, decadent flavors of this classic Italian dessert.
